ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA — The National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) proudly announces that Kristina Ray has been appointed as Administrator of the North Carolina Credit Union Division, effective July 1, 2023. This follows the announcement that Rose Conner, former North Carolina Administrator and NASCUS Board Member will retire at the end of this month.

“I am honored to be appointed the next Administrator,” said Ray. “I look forward to using my experience in financial institution regulation to serve, promote, and support the North Carolina Credit Union Division, our 31 state-chartered credit unions, and the 3.2 million North Carolinians who are members of those institutions.”

Ray’s journey with the North Carolina Credit Union Division began in 2019. She was promoted to Assistant Administrator in 2021. Between 2005 and 2019, she served as an Examiner with the North Carolina Commissioner of Banks, following her time working in a state-chartered credit union. She received a B.S. in Business Administration from Meredith and graduated with distinction from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist.

“Kristina Ray is the right person to lead the North Carolina Credit Union Division as Administrator. She has valuable financial regulatory experience in challenging economic conditions. She possesses the knowledge, experience, and skillset to oversee and promote healthy state-chartered credit unions and an effective Division,” commented Rose Conner. “Ms. Ray’s time as the Assistant Administrator will allow a successful transition into her new role. I commend Secretary Sanders for appointing Kristina Ray as the Administrator of Credit Unions for the Division, our state-chartered credit unions, and their memberships.”

NASCUS extends its warmest congratulations to Kristina Ray on her highly deserved appointment. This new role is a testament to the trust and confidence that the state of North Carolina has in Kristina, recognizing her tireless work, exceptional skills, and remarkable abilities. This is a great accomplishment for Ms. Ray, and we are excited to work with her more in the future.

The North Carolina Division was created in 1915 and currently holds a total of 63 credit unions, 31 of which (49% of the total) are state-chartered (plus a corporate credit union) with more than $79B in total assets, $56.6B (71%) of that held by state-chartered credit unions for nearly 5M total members. Furthermore, the Division has been accredited with NASCUS since 1992.
