(Sept. 24, 2021) Four representatives of state-chartered credit unions are joining four representatives of federal credit unions as members of the CFPB’s Credit Union Advisory Council (CUAC), according to an updated roster of the panel released this week by the agency.

The CUAC is one of four advisory councils sponsored by the bureau (as mandated under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank) of 2010). The other three are the Consumer Advisory Board (CAB, the largest with 14 members), the Community Bank Advisory Council (CBAC, eight members), and the Academic Research Council (ARC, five members).

The groups are advisory, providing advice and input to the bureau on issues related to their interest areas; they meet at least twice a year. Members serve two-year terms.

The CUAC roster is now:

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Announces New Advisory Committee Members

 

 

(March 12, 2021) Two officers were named this week to the NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council (CUAC), which represents the credit union members of the association in leadership. Mike Ryan, general counsel of BECU in Tukwila, Wash., was elected vice chairman of the CUAC and Jeff Dahlstrom, president of Southeast Financial Credit Union in Franklin, Tenn., was elected the CUAC secretary/financial advisor. Mike Williams, of Colorado Credit Union in Denver chairs the CUAC. Meanwhile, the NASCUS Regulator Board (which represents the regulator members of the association) approved the appointment of Patti Perkins, director of the Idaho Department of Finance to the NASCUS Audit Committee.

(Nov. 6, 2020) The CFPB’s Credit Union Advisory Council (CUAC), along with the Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) and the Community Bank Advisory Council (CBAC), are scheduled to meet in a combined, public virtual session from 1 to 5:30 p.m. ET Nov. 18, according to bureau notices issued this week. The agenda, detailed on the agency’s website, includes discussion of:

  • section 1071 of the Dodd-Frank Act, which revised the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) to call for financial institutions’ collection and reporting of data regarding applications for credit for women-owned, minority-owned, and small businesses (the bureau began inviting public feedback on an outline of proposals in September);
  • consumer access to financial records under section 1033 of Dodd-Frank (currently addressed in an advance notice of proposed rulemaking); and
  • mortgage trends and themes specifically related to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting will be held virtually via the Internet, and is open to the public. Advance registration is required.

NASCUS members join CFPB Credit Union Advisory Council

Today, CFPB Director Kathy Kraninger  announced the appointment of members to the Credit Union Advisory Council (CUAC). The CUAC is a discretionary council that advises and consults with the Bureau on consumer financial issues related to credit unions. Among the appointees are NASCUS members Teresa Campbell, President & CEO, San Diego County Credit Union in San Diego, CA and Brian Holst, General Counsel, Elevations Credit Union in Boulder, CO.

The other CUAC members are:

  • Chair of the CUAC – Sean Cahill, President & CEO, TrueSky Credit Union (Oklahoma City, OK)
  • Arlene Babwah, VP Risk Management, Coastal Federal Credit Union (Raleigh, NC)
  • Rick Durante, VP, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Government Affairs, Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (Chadds Ford, PA)
  • Doe Gregersen, Vice President & General Counsel, Landmark Credit Union (New Berlin, WI)

Director Kraninger also appointed members of CFPB’s Consumer Advisory Board (CAB), Community Bank Advisory Council (CBAC), and Academic Research Council (ARC). Like the CUAC, these panels are comprised of experts advise who Bureau leadership on a broad range of consumer financial issues and emerging market trends.
