NASCUS is reminding members to use caution when reviewing event promotions, registration pages, emails, and social media posts that appear to represent our organization.
Fraudulent websites and social media posts can closely imitate legitimate organizations, making them difficult to identify at first glance. Before registering for an event or providing personal or payment information, take a moment to verify that the communication and registration page are associated with NASCUS.
What to look for
- All NASCUS events are posted on NASCUS.org. If you are unsure about an event or registration link, visit our website directly rather than relying on a link in an email or social media post.
- NASCUS uses Cvent for event registration, and our Cvent registration sites follow consistent NASCUS branding and design.
- NASCUS does not use unknown third-party organizations to collect event registrations on our behalf.
- While NASCUS partners with other organizations on select events, those partnerships are with established and widely recognized industry organizations and service providers, such as America’s Credit Unions and Critical Ops.
- Pay attention to branding, design, writing style, and overall presentation. Pages that look noticeably different from the NASCUS materials you are accustomed to seeing should be reviewed carefully.
- Check the web address closely before entering any information. Official NASCUS event information will originate from NASCUS.org or an authorized NASCUS Cvent registration page.
- Be alert for unusual spelling, terminology, grammar, or writing conventions. In the recent example identified by NASCUS, the site used British English spelling and phrasing that was inconsistent with our communications.
- Be cautious of unexpected requests for personal, login, or payment information, particularly if the message creates unnecessary urgency or directs you to an unfamiliar website.
When in doubt, verify first
If you encounter a questionable NASCUS event promotion, registration page, website, email, or social media post, please do not submit information through the site. Instead, visit NASCUS.org directly to confirm the event and access the official registration link.
If something appears to impersonate NASCUS or use our name, logo, event information, or branding without authorization, please send us the URL or a screenshot for review.
