DESCRIPTION:NASCUS Webinar Series:\nThe Most Important Responsibility of the Board ⎯ Governance\nJoin Us on September 24\, 2025\, from 1:00 pm ⎼ 2:00 pm (EST)\nNASCUS is pleased to present the latest offering in our ongoing series of complimentary member webinars. \nGovernance is the most critical role of the Board outside of hiring the CEO. Many board members\, regardless of tenure\, can be distracted by discussions and decisions that stray from their responsibilities as governance. This session will enlighten board members who are unfamiliar with governance responsibilities or seek a refresher. CEO’s\, executives\, managers\, and staff will benefit from understanding the primary role of the Board as representatives of the members. \nThe event will be recorded to accommodate members who may be unable to attend live due to work or scheduling conflicts. \n\nAttendance is free as a NASCUS member benefit. Registration is required.\nA virtual meeting link will be sent out ahead of the webinar. \n\nSpeaker: Carlyn Roy\nOwner/Consultant of Carlyn Roy Consulting\n\nLeveraging over 40 years of experience in credit unions as well as various community organizations\, Carlyn brings real life experience to her work. She is most recognized for transformational leadership achieved by translating key business insights and indicators into action-based plans with buy-in among executives\, employees\, and board members alike. \nCarlyn’s various executive roles across multiple disciplines enable her to understand the interdependence required for organizational success. Her experience working for\, with\, and serving on Boards provides a unique perspective. As a CEO\, Carlyn led a financial turnaround and cultural renaissance that resulted in a thriving member-focused organization. \nHer commitment to mentoring and coaching throughout her career demonstrated her belief in the power of succession planning\, even before it became a recognized priority. By actively coaching executives\, she fosters a culture of growth and development within organizational teams. This approach not only creates clear pathways for advancement and results in tangible outcomes\, it supports a proactive strategy that highlights the significant impact of coaching for organizational success and talent development. \nWhile actively employed in the credit union industry\, Carlyn served on multiple ACU\, previously CUNA\, and League/Trade Association committees\, was a founding member of the CUNA Lending Council\, has spoken at industry conferences nationally and internationally\, and served on the Board of the National Credit Union Foundation. Additionally\, she was a contributing editor to three textbook publications. \nShe is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University\, Western CUNA Management School\, served on the faculty of CUNA Management School\, and as a project reader for Western CUNA Management School. \nThroughout her career\, Carlyn has been an active member of her community. She has held leadership positions on numerous boards and committees. Her experiences include serving the industries of healthcare\, economic and community development\, education\, non-profit foundations\, and government.
