April 16, 2009 - NASCUS will join federal regulators and private industry capital experts to address supplemental capital options for credit unions on June 9 at the 75th Federal Credit Union Act Anniversary Event hosted by National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board member Gigi Hyland in Washington, D.C.
NASCUS has long supported supplemental capital options for credit unions and has urged NCUA, Congress and the credit union system to move forward with the required legislative and regulatory changes. “NASCUS looks forward to continuing to elevate the dialogue on supplemental capital for credit unions at this event,” said NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney. “As seen by recent market events and the challenges of the corporate system, it is apparent that credit unions need capital reform and they need it soon.”
Joining the NASCUS Chairman George Reynolds (GA) on the supplemental capital panel are Larry Fazio, Deputy Executive Director, NCUA; William E. Jackson, III, Professor of Management, University of Alabama, Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration; and Andy Poprawa, President/CEO, Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario.
The free, two-day NCUA event will celebrate 75 years of federal credit union history while providing a forum to discuss the future of federal credit unions in the 21st century. The keynote speaker is Representative Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) In addition, Operation HOPE Founder, Chairman and CEO John Hope Bryant has been invited to give a luncheon address.
