NASCUS Wraps Up Regional Regulator Meeting Series in Nashville

September 22, 2008 - The NASCUS regional regulators meeting series continued last week on September 18 with regulators from Southeastern states gathering in Nashville at the offices of the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions.

NASCUS and Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions Commissioner Greg Gonzales hosted regulators from Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio and the NASCUS Chairman George Reynolds from Georgia.

The meeting was an opportunity for regulators to candidly discuss examination, regulatory, legislative and agency issues affecting the credit union system in their region.  Unrelated business income tax (UBIT), interstate branching, mortgage licensing and registration and credit union balance sheet risk were just some of the issues addressed at the meeting.

The September 18 regional meeting was the culmination of a year-long series of regulator meetings hosted by state agencies and the NASCUS Chairman. NASCUS has held its regional regulator meeting series for five years and plans to continue the valuable opportunities for regulator-to-regulator dialogue on a regional basis. State regulators will gather next at the annual NASCUS/National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) National Meeting in spring 2009.
