NASCUS Participates in California Department of Financial Institutions Agency-Wide Training

September 16, 2008 - Last week, NASCUS participated in agency-wide training held by the California Department of Financial Institutions (DFI).  At the invitation of the agency, NASCUS presented a breakout for examiners and senior staff on the current mortgage crisis, likely regulatory and statutory changes as a result of the crisis and key issues for examiners.

In addition to the mortgage lending breakout, NASCUS was also invited to address the general session of the training symposium.  For the general session, NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney updated all attendees on some of the key issues facing the credit union system:  regulatory reform and the Treasury Blueprint; preemption; capital reform, unrelated business income tax; and enhanced board governance practices.

“It is a pleasure for NASCUS to once again participate in this year’s California DFI training. This agency-wide training demonstrates DFI’s commitment to its professionalism and upkeep of high regulatory standards and NASCUS is pleased to contribute,” said Fortney.

The training took place September 9-11, 2008 in Monterey, California. For more information on NASCUS participation in training, contact Jenny Champagne at jenny@nascus.org.
