Veteran State Regulators to Serve on NASCUS Board of Directors

August 25, 2008 - At the NASCUS 2008 Annual Meeting on August 22 during the NASCUS State System Summit, three state regulators were selected to continue service on the NASCUS Board and a new state regulator was appointed to serve for a first time term.

The following three state regulators will continue service on the NASCUS Board for three-year terms: Jim Forney, director of the Iowa Department of Commerce; Roger Little, deputy commissioner of the Michigan Office of Insurance and Regulation; and Orla Beth Peck, supervisor of credit unions for the Utah Department Financial Institutions. In addition, NASCUS Chairman George Reynolds (GA) appointed Mary Hughes, financial institutions bureau chief of the Idaho Department of Finance, to a one-year term on the NASCUS Board of Directors.

Reynolds will serve as NASCUS Chairman for one more year; NASCUS Chairmen serve two-year terms. “NASCUS is a strong organization. In many respects, our strength derives from our diversity of agencies,” said Reynolds “Each of us represents an autonomous body with our own laws, rules, regulations and policies. I look forward to continuing my service as Chairman and to work with this incredible group of state regulators.”

The NASCUS Board also recognized Harold Feeney, commissioner of the Texas Credit Union Department, for his long time service on the NASCUS Board. Feeney, a past NASCUS Chairman, served on the NASCUS Board for more than 20 years. “Harold’s expertise and contributions to NASCUS over the years as Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer and Board member have contributed in a great way to the organization that NASCUS is today,” added Reynolds at the Annual Meeting.

The NASCUS Board of Directors is comprised of nine state regulators. The four regulators starting new terms join Chairman Reynolds (GA), Tom Candon, deputy commissioner, Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration; Suzanne Cowan, director, Wisconsin Office of Credit Unions; Linda Jekel; director of credit unions, Washington Department of Financial Institutions; and Jerrie Lattimore, administrator, North Carolina Commerce Department, Credit Union Division.

The NASCUS Board also elected its officers. Tom Candon will serve as the Chairman-elect and Sue Cowan is the Secretary/Treasurer.
