April 22, 2008 - The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) are encouraging the public to provide comment on recommendations for the 2008-2009 Guidance Priority List.
The IRS and the Treasury’s Office of Tax Policy use the Guidance Priority List to prioritize the tax issues that should be addressed through regulations, revenue rulings, revenue procedures, notices and other published administrative guidance. Published guidance serves an important role in increasing voluntary compliance by helping to clarify ambiguous areas of tax law.
The list will establish the guidance that Treasury and the IRS will issue from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. The agencies ask that comments be submitted by May 31, 2008. To read more about this topic, follow this link to the IRS’ Web site.
