PRESS RELEASE
July 11, 2007
ARLINGTON, Va. — NASCUS Chairman Linda Jekel (WA) appointed Suzanne Cowan, director of the Wisconsin Office of Credit Unions, to the NASCUS Board of Directors on July 9.
Cowan was appointed to serve as Director of the Wisconsin Office of Credit Unions in October 2003 by Gov. Jim Doyle. Prior to the appointment, she was the president of WEA Credit Union in Madison, Wisconsin for 25 years. Cowan will fill an unexpired one-year term created by a vacancy on the Board resulting from the resignation of Ken Roberts (OH.)
“I am delighted to be appointed to the NASCUS Board,” said Cowan. “My background is an interesting combination of long experience running a credit union and a relatively recent transition to the regulatory side. I intend to use this appointment to learn all I can from my fellow board members and I hope I can be helpful to them, as well.”
Cowan is the chair of the NASCUS Federal Affairs Subcommittee and a member of the NASCUS Legislative Affairs Committee. Additionally, Cowan is one of three state regulators including Linda Jekel (WA) and Tom Candon (VT) nominated to serve a three-year term on the NASCUS Board beginning August 2007. NASCUS regulators will vote to approve the nominations prior to the NASCUS Annual Meeting on August 10 during the NASCUS State System Summit in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, August 9-11, 2007.
