PRESS RELEASE
October 29, 2007
Phoenix, AZ— NASCUS continued its Credit Union Advisory Council Outreach Meeting series last week with a meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. The October 26 meeting was co-hosted with the Arizona Credit Union System (ACUS) and held at the ACUS’ headquarters.
In the past two years, NASCUS has held nearly a dozen outreach meetings on a state and regional basis with the credit union community. These sessions provide an outstanding opportunity for NASCUS, credit union leaders and the state leagues to exchange ideas, engage in discussions about common interests and to address challenges facing state credit unions and the dual chartering system.
“The face-to-face interaction with credit union CEOs is very valuable to us,” said NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney. “We’ve had productive meetings over the years and will continue this series to promote the important dialogue on emerging regulatory, operational and legislative issues facing credit unions.”
The group discussed many topics including unrelated business income tax (UBIT), the recent Department of Defense consumer lending regulations for the military, overdraft protection issues, disaster preparedness, Bank Secrecy Act compliance and various recent National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) proposed rules. NASCUS also elaborated on its strategic priorities to strengthen state agencies, preserve dual chartering, minimize federal preemption and advocate for capital reform for credit unions.
NASCUS appreciates ACUS and state credit union leagues’ support of the Credit Union Advisory Council. NASCUS will continue to hold Credit Union Advisory Council Outreach Meetings and announce future locations and dates on its Web site at www.nascus.org.
