NASCUS Online Training Opportunities

A special message from Mary Martha Fortney, President and CEO,
August 16, 2010

NASCUS is committed to providing quality training and education to state credit union examiners, state credit union managers and boards of directors across the nation.

One method we have found valuable for participants and popular to use to provide this quality training is 90 minute webinars that are timely, geared to specific member needs and reasonably priced. Our goal is to get as many examiners and credit union executives as possible “around the table” as we deliver training opportunities from some of the countries financial service experts.

We have some interesting sessions scheduled over the next few months.  On August 18, we are offering a webinar on Reverse Mortgages – a product that is becoming quite popular and the subject of regulatory scrutiny as the population ages. Chuck Cross, Vice President of Mortgage Regulatory Policy for the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS), will discuss the operational aspects and the risks associated with this complex product.

We have also scheduled an interesting webinar series for our members to consider.  For the past two years, NASCUS has worked with state regulatory agencies to provide essential regulatory, compliance and education to boards of directors to increase their understanding of what regulators expect. Another goal of the programs is to enhance director knowledge of various compliance and regulatory obligations.

On September 9, Bill Klewin, Associate General Counsel, Leading Product Compliance from CUNA Mutual Group, will update participants on important current and proposed regulatory and compliance changes impacting credit unions. On October 5, Frank Drake of Smith Debnam will review the legal requirements for Board of Directors imposed by state laws and regulations. He will also provide information that will help Board members to do their jobs, to follow the law, and to avoid the risk of personal liability lawsuits.  These sessions are targeted to credit union directors; however, regulators are welcome to attend as well.

We know schedule conflicts may prevent our members from attending our webinars and want to remind you of the following:  If you have missed any of our 90-minute webinars that have taken place in recent months, visit our website to order the recording for only $199.
